My journey has begun! I boarded my first Amtrak train around 7 PM. I checked my bike and two of my panniers – the other two are my carry-ons. I was quite surprised to learn roughly 40 people were boarding in Denver, which is a slow night. It’s usually 60-80!

First order of business after checking out my roommette was dinner in the dining car (included with my ticket). I was seated with three other people – a couple from Switzerland, and a lady from Ann Arbor, MI. Each of us had a different entree and they all looked pretty good. My dessert was white chocolate blueberry cobbler cheesecake, and it was delicious!

So far, the biggest difference between Amtrak and most of the trains I’ve been on in Europe is Amtrak isn’t nearly as smooth – lots of shimmying and shaking 🤣
