Another glorious day to be riding a bike! We started in NY, crossed into VT, then ended up in NH! Long day and lots of climbing, but the weather was amazing (bright sunshine and afternoon temps in the 80s) and the foliage and scenery in general help take your mind off the hard work. Apparently, New England’s in drought conditions so the ferry we were supposed to take closed early for the season because the law level is too low for it to operate. So, we had to ride an extra 20ish miles to got over the bridge, and we had an extra 500 feet of climbing! Hard to complain, but it was certainly not an easy day. Foliage is somewhat muted due to the drought as well.
I was with a smaller group today (Mike, Katie, and Karen), which was a nice change for many reasons. We stuck together until the climbs and then it was every person for themselves. Mike and I regrouped after lunch with Bill and Dan, so the last 30 miles, while painful, flew by.
Tomorrow is the last hard day – a bit longer and a bit more elevation than today. Monday should be an easier day, and I’m pretty sure adrenaline alone will get us through Monday’s ride.
