The journey officially begins! An absolutely beautiful day to kick off our adventure. After a 2 hour shuttle ride from Portland to Astoria and lots of pre-ride prep, we finally took our first pedal strokes on the actual trip today. 15 miles westward from Astoria to Fort Stevens State Park where we each ceremoniously dipped our rear tire in the Pacific Ocean. Then, the moment we’d been training for all year – 15 miles heading east! This was really mostly a shakeout ride just to make sure our bikes fit and were working properly. The Cannery Pier Hotel in Astoria is really nice! We had an amazing private group dinner at Nekst (highly recommend both the hotel and Nekst) and are ready to call it a night. Tomorrow is 100 miles of riding back to Portland!
